Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Afonso Mendes (ranked 4618 p4p, 3444 weight class) and Ricky Rotel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Rotel!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rotel misses with a double jab
and Mendes counters with a nice body shot.
Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rotel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mendes slips a jab and a cross from Rotel.
Rotel misses with a few strikes there.
Mendes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mendes moves out of range of the strikes.
Rotel takes a shot to the body in his stride.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rotel takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Mendes lands a stunning uppercut that sends Rotel to the mat!

Mendes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mendes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rotel has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mendes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rotel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mendes.
Mendes is looking for a kimura but Rotel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendes to get the leverage.

Mendes postures up in Rotel's guard and throws a big left but Rotel blocks it.
Mendes definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Mendes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendes drops back looking for a leg! Rotel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rotel manages to kick Mendes off! Mendes jumps back into Rotel's guard.
Rotel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendes's guard.
Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rotel defends well.
Mendes trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Rotel stands up over Mendes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mendes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rotel wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Mendes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Rotel on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Mendes throws a lazy right hand but Rotel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Afonso Mendes is winning the standup battle so far.
Mendes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Rotel leaves Mendes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rotel is looking for the big counter here.
Rotel throws a combination. Mendes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Afonso Mendes has been cut.
Rotel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mendes thows a body kick. Rotel tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rotel pinned against the cage. Rotel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Afonso Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rotel throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mendes ducks under a wild hook from Rotel.
Mendes swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Mendes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rotel defends it nicely.

Despite the aggression on Rotel's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Rotel looks to land a combination but Mendes avoids it well.

As Mendes backs off Rotel throws a huge counter combo but Mendes manages to avoid it all.

and Mendes counters with a nice leg kick.

Rotel lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rotel.
Ricky Rotel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mendes throws a right and a left that Rotel avoids nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rotel thuds his right hand into Mendes's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Rotel seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Mendes shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Rotel is backing up but Mendes catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Rotel covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Mendes Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
