Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacinto Cruz (ranked 47 p4p, 188 weight class) and Curtis Rome (ranked 6 p4p, 26 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 26 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacinto Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 31 - 26 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz connects with the punch. Rome goes for a double leg but Cruz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cruz continues to drive forward. Cruz buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Rome throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cruz's waist but Cruz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rome off to one side. Rome throws a wild body kick that Cruz sees coming a mile off. A cross from Cruz lands. Cruz misses with a hook. Cruz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rome drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rome is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cruz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Cruz keeps Rome under control for a moment.

 That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz holds on to Rome's head and controls the position momentarily.
Rome thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rome goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cruz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rome but great work by Cruz. Rome tries to improve position but can't.
Cruz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Rome uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cruz. Despite the aggression on Rome's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Cruz thumps Rome with a low kick. Cruz lands with a straight right. Rome didn't see that one coming. Jab by Cruz. Cruz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rome. Jacinto Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Curtis Rome. A lazy left from Cruz finds it's target. Cruz wants to slow Rome down by chopping away at his legs. Rome lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cruz throws a hook but Rome blocks it. Nice uppercut there from Cruz. Cruz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rome. Rome shoots in looking for a takedown. Cruz tries to sprawl out of it but Rome keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cruz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cruz scores with a shot to the body.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz feints and then cracks Rome's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rome down. Cruz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Cruz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rome.
The fighters circle momentarily. Cruz darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. No luck for Rome with that takedown attempt. Rome uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cruz. Cruz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Jacinto Cruz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rome takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Cruz throws a nice outside leg kick. Cruz thows a left - swing and a miss! Rome shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cruz sprawls well. Cruz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rome gets slowly back to his feet. Nice sprawl there from Cruz as Rome shoots in. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Cruz is looking to slow Rome down with leg kicks.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Rome tries to move into range but Cruz moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. This has been an exciting period of action!
Cruz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Cruz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Rome. Rome wants to pass the guard but Cruz is keeping the position. Rome is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Cruz has his hands on Rome's head, controlling the position. Cruz looking for a sweep. Not yet Cruz, not yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruz working a defensive guard here.
Rome forces his way into half guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jacinto Cruz dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
Cruz missing with a left hand there. Rome was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rome. Rome shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cruz but Cruz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Cruz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rome sees it coming and avoids it easily. Cruz misses with an uppercut. Rome saw that one coming. Rome looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Rome's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Cruz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rome scrambles back to his feet. Cruz connects with a solid leg kick. Rome fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jacinto Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Curtis Rome. Rome avoids a lazy jab quite easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cruz lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. A low kick lands for Cruz.
Rome blocks a leg kick. Cruz throws a leg kick which misses Rome's front leg but catches the back leg as Rome tries to avoid it. Rome misses with a takedown attempt - Cruz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Cruz thows a body kick. Rome tries to catch it but that hurt him. Cruz fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Rome dives in and grabs Cruz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cruz pushes down on Rome's head and hops out. Rome on the wrong end of a nice hook. Rome stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cruz. Cruz cracks Rome with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Cruz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rome can do to turn this around? Rome on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Cruz scores with a nice head shot. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Cruz here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Cruz getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Rome chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cruz can pounce on him.
Rome has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Cruz. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rome blocks a jab. Rome is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Cruz lands with an uppercut that bounces Rome off the cage and back into range. Cruz thumps Rome with a low kick. Rome ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Cruz moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Cruz lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Rome's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Cruz thuds his right hand into Rome's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Rome looks for a takedown but Cruz sprawls well. Cruz lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rome's sensitive parts. Cruz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rome. Cruz moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Nice body kick there by Cruz. Rome with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Cruz to score with a decent uppercut. Nice jab there from Cruz. Cruz misses with a body kick. Rome looks like he wants to counter punch here. Horrible takedown attempt by Rome or perhaps it was just good defense by Cruz, which made it look bad. Rome gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Rome throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cruz was covering up waiting for the punch and Rome finishes the takedown easily into guard. Rome being controlled here momentarily. Cruz is trying to control the position but Rome postures up. Cruz trying to control the position here. Curtis Rome has got the better of the ground game so far. Rome throws an elbow that misses. Cruz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rome's guard. Nice move by Cruz!

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Rome has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Cruz has passed into side control.
Rome tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cruz presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Rome is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cruz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Rome is trying to escape the mount.
Cruz is standing up, even though he is in mount. Cruz smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jacinto Cruz dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Rome fails in his attempt to clinch. Cruz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rome doesn't seem bothered though.
Cruz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rome to score an easy takedown into full guard. Cruz tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rome wants to pass the guard but Cruz is keeping the position. Cruz controlling the position.

Rome has gone for a leg lock! Cruz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rome's guard.

Rome looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cruz has picked Rome up and slammed him! Rome can't keep hold of the triangle and Cruz manages to pass to side control! Rome has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Rome takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Rome sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Rome looking for submissions off his back. Cruz wants to stand but Rome has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Rome works his way to full guard. Good work.
Rome escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cruz is posturing up here but Rome has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Cruz tries to roll out but it's too tight and Cruz has to tap! Slick submission there by Rome!
