Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Johnson! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brody Gibson! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gibson looks to land a right hand but Johnson moved out of range. Johnson throws a jab but it's blocked by Gibson. Gibson fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Johnson tries a head kick but it misses.
Gibson misses with a looping left. Gibson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gibson feints the counter takedown. Johnson throws a head kick that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson connects with a jab. Johnson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
 It looks like James Johnson has been cut. Gibson misses with a wild body shot.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Gibson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Gibson has his takedown stuffed and Johnson counters with a left to the body. Gibson misses with a left hand and Johnson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Johnson looks to land a combination but Gibson avoids it well. Gibson has a takedown stuffed. Gibson looks to score with a jab to the body but Johnson is just out of range. Johnson lands the left hand.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from Johnson. No joy for Gibson on that attempt. James Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brody Gibson. Gibson moves away from the strike by Johnson. Gibson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Johnson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gibson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Gibson throws a big shot that misses. Johnson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. This has been an exciting period of action! Gibson throws a shot to the body.
A punch lands to the side of Gibson 's head but he takes it in his stride. Nice uppercut lands for Johnson. That snapped Gibson's head back.
Gibson jabbing away but nothing is landing.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gibson. Johnson fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Gibson checks it well. Gibson lands a really nice looking cross but Johnson seems unphased.
Johnson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Gibson blocks a jab. Gibson cracks Johnson with a good jab. Johnson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Johnson jabs Gibson to the body, keeping him at a distance. Gibson throws a right hand that misses
letting Johnson counter with a right hand.
 Gibson is rocked! James Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gibson lands with a right hand. Gibson is still on wobbly legs! Can Johnson finish him?
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson throws out a loose jab but Gibson uses good head movement to avoid it. Gibson seems to have recovered his senses. The ref watches Gibson closely before deciding to step in and end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Johnson! James Johnson retains his featherweight title! After winning the bout, James Johnson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
