PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Christ (ranked 1143 p4p, 1013 weight class) and Franz Nicholas (ranked 59 p4p, 54 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeff Christ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franz Nicholas!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nicholas misses the jab.
Christ throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nicholas punishes Christ's body with a nice straight punch.

Christ scores with a takedown into Nicholas's guard.
Christ is working Nicholas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Nicholas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Christ. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Christ slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Christ is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nicholas will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Christ seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nicholas for as long as he can get away with.
Nicholas wants to control but Christ postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
An elbow from Christ crashes against the mat.
Christ trying to control the position but Nicholas is working away.
Nicholas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Nicholas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Christ wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Christ is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Nicholas is trying to escape and Christ transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Nicholas is forced to tap! Nice work there by Christ! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jeff Christ!
After the fight, Jeff Christ was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
