This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 2 losses; Giovanni Civello! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Shinnosuke Nakagawa! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Civello shoots in looking for a takedown. Nakagawa tries to sprawl out of it but Civello keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nakagawa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Civello shoots in but no luck this time. Civello shoots for a takedown but Nakagawa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nakagawa with the counter takedown but Civello avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Giovanni Civello. That's going to take a lot out of him. Civello tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Nakagawa defends well and Civello ends up having to push Nakagawa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Civello drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Nakagawa lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Civello. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
