PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Archie Drury (ranked 4058 p4p, 5493 weight class) and Jordi Foz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Archie Drury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordi Foz!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Foz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Foz lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Foz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Foz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Foz with a nice head shot there.
Foz is pushing down on Drury's leg trying to pass to half guard. Drury is fighting to maintain full guard but Foz has managed to sneak the leg through.
Foz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Drury avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Foz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drury wants to control but Foz is keeping busy.
Foz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Foz thows a huge punch but Drury dodges it nicely.

Drury is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Foz scores with a couple of nice shots.
Foz wants to take a breather but Drury is having none of it.
Drury wants to improve his position but Foz is controlling well.
Drury is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Foz controlling the pace.
Foz passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Drury!
Drury is looking to improve his position but Foz isn't that keen on the idea.
Foz putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Drury is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Foz trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Foz controlling the pace for now.
Drury wants to hold on but Foz pushes him away.

Foz avoids the attempt from Drury to control.
Foz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Drury tries to lock up and control but Foz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Foz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Drury tries to clinch but Foz moves out of range.
No luck for Drury with that takedown attempt.
Foz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Drury tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Foz manages to circle out of the way.
Drury doesn't manage to clinch there - Foz circles away.
Foz changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Drury tries to clinch up but Foz circles away and keeps his distance.
Drury keeps the fight on the outside.
Foz throws a nice looking combination but Drury bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Drury changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Foz tries to avoid it but Drury manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Foz to the ground. Foz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Foz stalls.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Drury tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Foz smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Archie Drury. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drury shoots in for a takedown but Foz shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Foz manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Drury on his heels. He'll look to pass Drury's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Foz stays in close to Drury's body and controls the position.
Foz lands a couple of elbows.

Foz stands up and waves to Drury to follow him.

Foz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Foz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Foz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drury trying to hold on to Foz's head to control him but Foz postures up.

Foz stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Drury to get to his feet.

Foz is trying to push Drury away but Drury has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Drury is trying to pull guard but Foz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Foz fails to pull guard.
Drury throws an elbow but it misses.

Foz gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Drury is looking to stand back up but Foz counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Drury.

Foz scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Foz wants to pass the guard but Drury is defending well.
Foz trying to control the pace.
Foz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drury keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Foz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Drury looking for submissions off his back.
Drury controlling the position well.
Foz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jordi Foz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Drury's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Drury gets caught napping as Foz dives in and scores a takedown. Drury manages to retain guard.
Drury is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Drury knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Foz on the ground.
Foz tries to free his leg and advance position but Drury is retaining full guard.

Foz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Drury, pushing him back against the cage.

Foz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Drury uses from the top position.

Drury is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Foz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Foz has escaped and now he's on top!

Foz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Drury's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Foz trying to control the action but Drury is working from the bottom.
Foz is thwarting Drury's attempts to control the position.
Drury is trying to escape back to his feet but Foz uses the scramble to pass into side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Foz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Foz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Drury darts in looking for a takedown but Foz gets double underhooks and turns Drury into the cage.
Foz tries to counter by closing the distance.
Foz stalling the fight.

Drury breaks the clinch.
Foz doesn't manage to clinch there - Drury circles away.
Drury throws a big counter combination but Foz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Drury drives through and clinches with Foz against the cage.
Drury fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Drury is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Foz to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Archie Drury. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Foz has Drury pressed against the cage, preventing Drury from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Foz is trying to maintain a safe position but Drury gets an underhook and turns Foz into the cage.

Foz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Foz shoots in but no luck this time.

Drury fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Foz avoids it really well and circles away.

Foz dives in and grabs Drury's left leg, looking for a takedown. Drury pushes down on Foz's head and hops out.
Drury stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Drury wants it to stay on the feet.
Drury tries to score a power double leg takedown but Foz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Drury somewhat.

Foz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Archie Drury has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jordi Foz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Foz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
