Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Tate (ranked 2792 p4p, 3164 weight class) and William Ward (ranked 282 p4p, 312 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melvin Tate! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Ward! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and James Atkins.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ward steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tate. Tate misses with a hook. Ward ducked under it nicely. Tate swings for the body but Ward moves out of range.
Tate throws a hook but Ward avoids it easily. Jab from Tate.
 It looks like William Ward has been cut. Tate misses with an uppercut
and Ward counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ward. Ward trying to control the position from guard on top but Tate is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ward trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ward's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Ward wants to control from the top but Tate keeps moving. Ward controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Tate is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ward is controlling him. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Tate avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Ward throws a big elbow that misses. Ward is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Tate comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Ward with a jab.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Ward blocks a jab. Ward is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. A swing and a miss from Tate. Jab by Tate. Tate connects with the punch. Tate jabbing away but nothing is landing. Tate has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Punishing Division in the buildup to the fight. Ward is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tate sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Tate swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Tate misses with a straight right.
Ward throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tate tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ward is in Tate's guard. Tate knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ward on the ground. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ward advances to half guard. Ward uses his free foot to push down on Tate's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Tate. Tate wants to try and get back to his feet.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Ward controlling from mount. Ward with shots to the head and body - Tate looks very uncomfortable down there.
Ward throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Tate has his hands clasped together but Ward breaks the hold and Tate is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Ward!
