PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Timothy Mcdonald (ranked 25066 p4p, 4666 weight class) and Ezra Spence (ranked 510 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ezra Spence!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spence lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mcdonald circles away quickly and effectively.
Spence looks winded!
Spence misses with a body shot

and Mcdonald counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mcdonald content to control rather than advance.
Mcdonald wants to take a breather but Spence is having none of it.
Mcdonald stalling.

Mcdonald is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Spence sees it coming and defends easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mcdonald gets a clinch.
Mcdonald is looking for a takedown.
Spence is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Spence manages to break the clinch.

enabling Mcdonald to counter with a crisp jab.
Spence swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Spence throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Mcdonald counters with a shoot takedown. Spence fights it but they end up in guard.
Mcdonald has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Spence is proving hard to escape from.

Mcdonald gets to his feet. Spence looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Mcdonald fails in his attempt to clinch.
Spence uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Mcdonald has time to react.

Spence gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mcdonald to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mcdonald knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spence on the ground.
Mcdonald's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Mcdonald throws a strike but Spence rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Mcdonald looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mcdonald is trying to control the position from the bottom.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spence wants to stand but Mcdonald has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Spence gets to his feet. Mcdonald looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Timothy Mcdonald dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Sloppy strikes from Spence. Those never looked like landing.

Mcdonald closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Spence seems a little lost for a moment, as Mcdonald dominates the positioning.

Mcdonald tries for a kimura but Spence is defending well.

Mcdonald thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Mcdonald wants to lay and pray for a moment but Spence keeps working.

Spence is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mcdonald asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Mcdonald drives through and clinches with Spence against the cage.
Mcdonald tries to land knees in the clinch but Spence avoids the damage to the body.
Mcdonald is trying to drag Spence to the mat but Spence just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mcdonald jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Spence walks away with a smile on his face. Mcdonald gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Timothy Mcdonald. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mcdonald closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mcdonald slows down the pace here.
Spence wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mcdonald has him pressed against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ezra Spence showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Spence tries to sprawl but Mcdonald drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Spence pushes Mcdonald off looking to stand but Mcdonald dives back in and keeps control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mcdonald throws a head kick but Spence moves out of range.

Spence has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Mcdonald has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Mcdonald dives in for a single leg takedown but Spence sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Mcdonald misses with a head kick.
And Spence tries to counter it with a takedown but Mcdonald pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Spence tries to kick Mcdonald off but Mcdonald keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ezra Spence comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Spence has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
