Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jesper Martensson (ranked 2764 p4p, 2791 weight class) and Ruslan Rzayev (ranked 282 p4p, 285 weight class). Martensson comes into the arena with Lil' Wayne - Drop The World blaring out of the sound system. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesper Martensson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruslan Rzayev! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and William Gold.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martensson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Rzayev misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Martensson.
Rzayev gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Martensson lands with an uppercut that bounces Rzayev off the cage and back into range. A slow jab from Martensson misses its intended target.
Rzayev drives through with a takedown into Martensson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We've been hearing good reports from Martensson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Rzayev is working Martensson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Martensson tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rzayev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Rzayev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Rzayev missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rzayev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rzayev loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Rzayev throws a strike but Martensson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Martensson wants to control from the top but Rzayev keeps moving. Martensson connects with a couple of short punches. Martensson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rzayev swivels though and keeps the full guard. Martensson looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Our spies down at at Crimson CrowN Combat inform us that Rzayev has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Rzayev looking for a sweep. Not yet Rzayev, not yet.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Rzayev trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Martensson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Martensson wants to control from the top but Rzayev keeps moving.
Martensson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Martensson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Rzayev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martensson is one step ahead there. Rzayev preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Rzayev keeping full guard, as Martensson tries to pass. Martensson with a nice head shot there. Martensson lands a couple of decent looking shots. Martensson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rzayev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rzayev manages to escape and get back to his feet.

and Rzayev counters with a takedown into side control. Rzayev tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Rzayev working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Martensson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rzayev's best efforts. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Rzayev sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Martensson defending well though. Rzayev looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Martensson has hold of Rzayev's hands but Rzayev slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rzayev is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Martensson is trying is best to control the position here. Rzayev winds up and cracks Martensson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Martensson is pulling down on Rzayev's head. It's preventing any offense from Rzayev, at least for the moment. Rzayev trying to control but Martensson is working from the bottom. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ruslan Rzayev will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Martensson scores with a one two! Rzayev had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Rzayev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Martensson has his foot on Rzayev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rzayev works his way back into a safe position though. Martensson working a defensive guard here.
Rzayev keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Martensson's head. Rzayev is looking to work some ground and pound but Martensson has wrist control.
Martensson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rzayev defends it easily. Rzayev is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Martensson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ruslan Rzayev has got the better of the ground game so far. Martensson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rzayev manages to get himself to full guard.

Martensson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rzayev dives on top into guard.
 Rzayev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rzayev lands a couple of decent looking shots. Rzayev content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rzayev scoring with punches to the head and body. Martensson is adopting a defensive guard.
