PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Walay Buut (ranked 23420 p4p, 23453 weight class) and Yawa Kiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Yawa Kiang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 75 - 61 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 47 - 90 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buut shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiang as he avoids it easily.
Kiang is trying to counter with his kicks.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown but Buut manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kiang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kiang throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Buut tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kiang is in Buut's guard.
Buut seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Buut controls Kiang momentarily but Kiang frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kiang looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Buut looking to control.
Buut seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kiang is stalling in the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Buut fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kiang thinks about the counter body kick.
Buut shoots and misses
and Kiang counters with a low kick, right behind Buut 's knee.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walay Buut. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buut stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Buut wants it to stay on the feet.

Buut shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kiang fails with the takedown.
And Buut counters with a quick kick to the body but Kiang blocks it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Buut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.
Buut wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kiang keeps working.
Buut throws a strike aimed at the side of Kiang's head but Kiang avoids it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang is not content to let Buut control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!

Buut fails with the takedown
and Kiang counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kiang.
Buut tried to counter with a leg kick but Kiang avoided it.
Kiang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Buut.
Kiang was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buut scores with a takedown into Kiang's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Buut slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Buut's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buut has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kiang is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Buut throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Buut off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walay Buut. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buut misses with a body kick.
And Kiang responds with a good body kick, but Buut manages to step out the way in time.
Buut darts in looking for a takedown but Kiang gets double underhooks and turns Buut into the cage.
Kiang doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kiang has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Buut is trying to keep an underhook but Kiang manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Buut is trying to escape back to his feet but Kiang uses the scramble to pass into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Kiang counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Buut misses with a takedown
and Kiang counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Kiang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Buut's guard.
Kiang controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Buut wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Kiang is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walay Buut has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Buut wants to sweep here but Kiang controlling him for the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yawa Kiang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kiang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
