This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 16 wins and 13 losses; Harry Kim! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 9 losses; Steve Fish! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Kim feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Kim (2) vs (0) Fish Kim being controlled here momentarily. Fish wants to sweep but no luck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fish is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Fish looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kim is one step ahead there. Kim definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Kim slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Fish controlling Kim's posture. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kim showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Fish is controlling Kim's posture.

He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Fish looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kim is one step ahead there. Fish is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Kim tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Fish is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Kim controlling from mount. Fish tries to reverse the position but Kim maintains control. Fish regains half guard. Fish trying to control from the bottom.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Fish is pressing down on Kim's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Kim is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Fish seems keen to control Kim's posture. Fish lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kim (5) vs (2) Fish Fish is looking to pass into half guard but Kim pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Kim is in guard. Fish is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kim controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Fish manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kim manages to get himself to full guard.

 That's six minutes gone in the round. Fish wants to control but Kim is keeping him busy. Fish taking a breather here. Fish wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kim keeps working. Fish is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Kim is trying to control Fish's posture but Fish avoids it. Fish is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Fish wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kim keeps working. Fish working away. A lull in the action here. Kim wants to control but Fish postures up. What's Kim going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle. Kim is not content to let Fish control the position. Kim is being controlled here.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Kim is looking to regain half guard here but Fish keeps moving and retains side control. A lull in the action here. Kim gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kim trying to control here.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Fish is taking a breather. Kim says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Kim wants to get back to full guard. Fish tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kim knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kim is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Fish slows the pace down in half guard. Kim slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Fish trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Fish wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving. Fish showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Fish trying to control but Kim is working from the bottom. Kim looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Fish's corner is telling him to maintain position.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Kim keeping full guard, as Fish tries to pass. Fish controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Fish stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kim has control of Fish's left arm, preventing Fish from doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fish trying to control the position from guard on top but Kim is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fish is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kim is on top in guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Fish holds on and takes a little breather.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Fish looking for a sweep. Not yet Fish, not yet. Fish wants to control but Kim passes easily into half guard.

Kim looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Fish wants to get back to full guard. Fish is trying to maintain the position but Kim is very close to passing his half guard.
Kim is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fish doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kim. Fish tries to get to full guard but Kim has control of the leg.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Fish is looking to control Kim's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fish avoid being mounted? Fish has his hands clasped together around Kim's back. He's all about the action.
Kim looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that's the end of the fight! Kim takes the fight on points by 9 to 7. In his post fight interview, Harry Kim started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception. |
