This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 39 wins and 43 losses; Friedrich August Von Hayek! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Chai shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Von Hayek manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Von Hayek is pulling down on Chai's head. It's preventing any offense from Chai, at least for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. We've been hearing good reports from Chai's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Chai tries to free his leg and advance position but Von Hayek is retaining full guard. Von Hayek bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Von Hayek jumps into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Chai (2) vs (5) Von Hayek You can see the frustration on Chai's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. I wouldn't like to be where Chai is right now.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Von Hayek is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Chai manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Von Hayek wants to pass the guard but Chai is defending well. Chai is trying to control but Von Hayek manages to pass to mount!

My spies in House Of Pain inform me that Von Hayek has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Von Hayek takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Chai is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chai is squirming around, avoiding Von Hayek's attempts to control the action.

And that's the end of the fight! Von Hayek wins on points by 8 to 2. After winning the bout, Friedrich August Von Hayek thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
