Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshihiro Akiyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jack Mehoff!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Mehoff finds it's target.
Akiyama shoots in for a takedown but Mehoff shows good takedown defense.
Akiyama pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Akiyama takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mehoff stuffs the takedown.
Mehoff works Akiyama's body with a nice hook.
Akiyama looks to clinch
letting Mehoff counter with a right hand.
Akiyama throws a combination that misses
and Mehoff counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mehoff lands a jab to the head.
Mehoff lands with a straight right. Akiyama didn't see that one coming.
Mehoff connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mehoff throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Akiyama.

Akiyama doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Akiyama throws a sloppy head kick
and Mehoff connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Akiyama has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rising Sun Training in the buildup to the fight.
Akiyama takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Akiyama jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mehoff uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Akiyama thuds his right hand into Mehoff's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Akiyama throws a lazy uppercut
and Mehoff counters with a nice uppercut.
Mehoff has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nice body punch from Mehoff.
Mehoff thows a left - swing and a miss!
Jack Mehoff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Akiyama shoots and misses
and Mehoff counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoshihiro Akiyama. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mehoff lands a slapping body shot.
Akiyama drops his hands momentarily and Mehoff takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Mehoff lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mehoff scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Akiyama throws a right and a left that Mehoff avoids nicely.
Mehoff let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Akiyama throws a leg kick that is checked
and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mehoff lands a nice hook to Akiyama's body. Akiyama takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Mehoff lands with a right hand.

Mehoff lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mehoff lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Akiyama shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mehoff counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Akiyama is rocked!
Akiyama closes the distance but Mehoff moves to the side
and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Oh Akiyama is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Akiyama swings widly with a right hand
and Mehoff counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Akiyama! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Mehoff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jack Mehoff!
