Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marski Martola (ranked 931 p4p, 863 weight class) and Jake Paulson (ranked 97 p4p, 89 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 22 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marski Martola! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 13 - 1, fighting out of London, Jake Paulson! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martola lands a glancing blow to the side of Paulson's head. Martola looks to land a body kick but Paulson moved away. Paulson is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Martola throws a hook to the side of Paulson's head but Paulson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Paulson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Paulson misses with a straight left. Martola moves forwards but Paulson connects with a nice, crisp jab. Martola's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Paulson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Martola scrambles back to his feet. Martola lands a jab to Paulson's midsection. Martola throws a jab but it's blocked by Paulson. Paulson wants to clinch up but Martola keeps it at a distance. A little feinted left hand from Martola on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Paulson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Martola. Martola darts in looking for a takedown but Paulson gets double underhooks and turns Martola into the cage. Paulson prevents the takedown attempt.

He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Martola lands a couple of decent looking shots. Martola throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Paulson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Paulson is pulling down on Martola's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Martola working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martola accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Paulson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Paulson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Paulson slips under a jab from Martola. Paulson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Martola.
Paulson stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marski Martola. That's going to take a lot out of him. Martola throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Paulson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Paulson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Paulson looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Paulson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Martola finds it's way round the side to connect with Paulson's head. Martola checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Martola attempts a counter takedown but Paulson avoids it well and moves away.

Paulson throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jake Paulson dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
The fighters circling - Martola throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Paulson wants to counter with a clinch but Martola pushes him away. The fighters circle momentarily. Paulson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Paulson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Paulson takes one to the chin there. Martola avoids the body shot from Paulson.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martola pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Martola misses with a wild body shot. Paulson throws out a counter right but Martola avoids it with no problem. A swing and a miss from Martola. Martola wants to clinch. Paulson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Martola.

Martola has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Paulson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Paulson is looking to control Martola's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Paulson avoid being mounted? Marski Martola overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Paulson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Martola is fighting to break Paulson's control of his arms but Paulson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Martola stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paulson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Paulson wants to stand and escape but Martola is having none of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Martola wants to pass the guard but Paulson is keeping the position. Martola stops Paulson from standing up.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Paulson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Martola lands with a punch from half guard. Martola is thwarting Paulson's attempts to control the position. Martola wants to take a breather but Paulson is having none of it. Martola working Paulson over with strikes. Martola is nestled in close to Paulson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Paulson wants to get back to his feet.

Marski Martola seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martola fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Paulson manages to avoid it. Martola throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Martola punishes Paulson's body with a nice straight punch.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheers as Paulson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Martola doesn't seem phased though. Martola avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Martola looks to land a right hand but Paulson moved out of range. Paulson tries to counter by closing the distance. Paulson stuffs the takedown. Martola tests Paulson's chin there with a solid looking shot. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Paulson slips under a jab from Martola. Martola missing with a left hand there.
