Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Thomas (ranked 4444 p4p, 4199 weight class) and Diego Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Vargas! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vargas feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Thomass jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Vargas lands a nice shot that snaps Thomas's head back.
Vargas cracks Thomas with a good jab. Vargas cracks Thomas with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Thomas gets in close and instigates a clinch. Vargas should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Vargas is pressed up against the cage. Thomas has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Vargas down to the mat. Vargas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Decent striking displayed by Vargas there. Vargas lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Vargas lands with a right hand. Vargas throws a shot to the body.
Thomas moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Thomas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vargas as he jumps to the side.
Vargas moves into the clinch. Vargas misses with a hook from the clinch.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Vargas is defending well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thomas tries for a takedown. No joy.
Vargas has a couple of punches blocked by Thomas.
Thomas tries to score a body lock takedown but Vargas shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Vargas lands with a light punch inside. Thomas's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! The referee is keeping an eye on Vargas - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Vargas lands a right hand. Thomas has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vargas after a bit of a struggle. Thomas keeps control of Vargas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Vargas fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Vargas scores with a shoulder strike.
Thomas lands a takedown into guard.
Vargas wants to stand and escape but Thomas is having none of it.
 That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas stands up and waves to Vargas to follow him. Diego Vargas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Vargas connects with a jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Vargas connects with a good right hand that stumbles Thomas. Thomas circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Vargas scores with a hook to the body. Thomas takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Thomas's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Vargas connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Thomas scrambles back to his feet. Thomas walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Vargas thuds his right hand into Thomas's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Vargas bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Thomas's head. Nice takedown defense from Vargas. No joy for Thomas on that attempt. Jab by Vargas. Vargas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Vargas is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Thomas had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Thomas is breathing heavily. Vargas moves into range and connects with a jab. Vargas lands with a straight right. Thomas didn't see that one coming. Vargas scores with a nice right hand.
Vargas lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Vargas lands a nice looking body shot.
Vargas might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Vargas swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Thomas. Vargas lands a jab to the nose. The fighters circle momentarily. Vargas darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Vargas lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Vargas stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Vargas digs a good body shot into Thomas's ribs. Thomas takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Thomas looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Thomas goes for a double leg but Vargas avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Vargas continues to drive forward. Vargas throws a head punch that misses.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. A shot in the inside from Vargas. Vargas lands with a short shot to the head. Vargas tries to break the clinch but Thomas is controlling the position. Vargas misses with the head strike.
Thomas has picked Vargas up - he's going for a ride! Thomas dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Vargas looks like he's trying to stand up.
Thomas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Vargas wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thomas looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Diego Vargas dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
Vargas lands a lovely overhand right. Some wild striking there from Vargas.
Vargas darts in and clinches Thomas up against the cage.
Thomas turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Thomas manages to end up in side control. Vargas is trying to escape and get back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thomas has an Americana. Vargas didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Thomas is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Thomas hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). John Thomas! John Thomas decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
