PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ikapoti Puapua (ranked 3892 p4p, 2648 weight class) and Remington Kaiser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaiser has chosen Slam by Onyx as his entrance music. Remington Kaiser has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ikapoti Puapua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Remington Kaiser!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Puapua closes the distance and clinches.

Kaiser has clasped his hands together around Puapua's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Puapua is looking to reverse the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kaiser misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Kaiser wants to control but Puapua is keeping him busy.
Kaiser creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Puapua sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puapua takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Puapua tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kaiser wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kaiser working the ground and pound but Puapua is defending the strikes.
Kaiser wants to stand but Puapua has his arm trapped.
Puapua dodges the ground and pound from Kaiser.
Puapua tries to bench press Kaiser off him but Kaiser keeps the position.
Puapua manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kaiser throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Puapua is staying active underneath Kaiser, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kaiser connects with a nice short shot to Puapua's temple.
Kaiser stalling.
Kaiser drops an elbow to the side of Puapua's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Puapua is looking to improve his position.
Kaiser wants to lay and pray for a moment but Puapua keeps working.

Kaiser is looking for a kimura but Puapua is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kaiser to get the leverage.
Kaiser perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kaiser works his foot free and advances to mount.
Puapua is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kaiser thowing shots but they're missing.
Kaiser controlling from the full mount.
Puapua tries to hold on but Kaiser pushes him away.
Kaiser looking to finish with strikes here!
Kaiser throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kaiser tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kaiser punching from mount but Puapua doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Kaiser has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Puapua's face.

Kaiser goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Puapua is on top in guard.

Puapua avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Remington Kaiser dominated that round.
That's time! Puapua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Puapua gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Puapua's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Puapua content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Puapua just leaning against Kaiser, taking a breather.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Kaiser has had enough of the clinch but Puapua keeps him there for the moment.
A bit of stalling here from Puapua.

Puapua pressing his opponent against the cage.
Puapua gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ikapoti Puapua.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Puapua stalling the fight.
Puapua could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kaiser throws an elbow but it misses.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Puapua will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kaiser up against the cage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Puapua is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kaiser is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Puapua to the mat. Puapua regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Puapua is adopting a defensive guard.
Kaiser throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Puapua works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Puapua keeping moving, preventing Kaiser from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Remington Kaiser is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Puapua takes the fight into the clinch.
Puapua content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Kaiser wants the takedown. Puapua is fighting it off but Kaiser persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Puapua's guard against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kaiser wants to control from the top but Puapua keeps moving.
Puapua is pulling down on Kaiser's head to control his posture.
Kaiser postures up in Puapua's guard and throws a big left but Puapua blocks it.
Kaiser working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaiser accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Puapua not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Kaiser controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Puapua gets caught napping as Kaiser dives in and scores a takedown. Puapua manages to retain guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Remington Kaiser showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Puapua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Kaiser tries to keep at a distance but Puapua has taken the fight into the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Puapua avoids a wild elbow strike from Kaiser.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kaiser looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Kaiser jumps into guard, dragging Puapua to the mat.
Kaiser has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Puapua has passed into side control.

Kaiser is looking for a sweep.
Puapua tries to move into full mount but can't pass Kaiser's legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kaiser tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Puapua controlling the position easily from mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kaiser is looking to improve his position but Puapua isn't that keen on the idea.
Kaiser is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Puapua avoids the attempt from Kaiser to control.
Kaiser can't escape the position.
Puapua looking to control and managing it successfully.
Kaiser's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Puapua controlling the pace for now.
Kaiser tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Remington Kaiser has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kaiser has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kaiser wants to hold on but Puapua pushes him away.
Puapua controlling from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kaiser is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Puapua trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Kaiser is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kaiser is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Puapua looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ikapoti Puapua has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Remington Kaiser is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Kaiser holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Puapua tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ikapoti Puapua showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kaiser has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
