PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Catara (ranked 2091 p4p, 24936 weight class) and Tyson Hudson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Catara comes to the cage accompanied by Everlong. Tyson Hudson has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Dan Catara's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Catara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyson Hudson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hudson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Catara as he avoids it easily.
Catara is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Hudson.
Hudson wants to clinch.
Hudson misses with a takedown attempt
and Catara counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Hudson is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Hudson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Catara.
Hudson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Catara counters with a leg kick.
Dan Catara has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyson Hudson.
Catara goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Hudson tries to get to full guard but Catara has control of the leg.

Catara escapes and gets back to his feet.

Catara darts in and clinches Hudson up against the cage.

Catara has Hudson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Catara pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hudson tumbling to the mat - Catara dives into Hudson's guard.
Catara sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hudson's guard.

Catara frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Hudson is bucking up trying to escape but Catara cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Catara will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Catara takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Catara has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Catara seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hudson for as long as he can get away with.
Hudson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hudson tries to hold on but Catara pushes him away.
BOOM! Catara connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Hudson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Catara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Catara cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Catara takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Catara is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hudson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hudson shrugs it off.
Hudson wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
I would not like to be Hudson right now.
Catara continues to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Catara has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Catara.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Catara dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Catara shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hudson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hudson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Catara controls the pace.

Hudson has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Dan Catara is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hudson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Catara circles away quickly and effectively.

Catara feints and as Hudson raises his hands in defense, Catara changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Catara controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hudson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Catara scores with a couple of nice shots.
Well, if Catara is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.
Hudson is trying to control but can't.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Catara connects with a nice short shot to Hudson's temple.

Catara looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Dan Catara overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Catara takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Catara is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Catara looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hudson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Catara is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Catara connects with a nice short shot to Hudson's temple.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Catara throws a sloppy head kick and Hudson moves out of range easily.

Catara closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hudson to the mat! Hudson manages to get full guard.
Hudson is wriggling around but Catara manages to pass to half guard.
Catara is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hudson can do to turn this around?

Catara lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Catara seems to be working for a kimura but Hudson defends the submission attempt.

Tyson Hudson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hudson is looking to stand back up but Catara counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hudson.

Hudson is looking to control Catara's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hudson avoid being mounted?
Catara slips a nice elbow through Hudson's hands, connecting with Hudson's forehead.

Catara maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Hudson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Catara has cracked it and Hudson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Catara!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dan Catara!
A determined Dan Catara didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
