Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Newport (ranked 5254 p4p, 3992 weight class) and Chael Shonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Thomas Newport has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thomas Newport!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chael Shonen!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newport buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Shonen connects with the punch.
Shonen tries to clinch up.
Newport throws a lazy right hand but Shonen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Shonen avoids the body shot from Newport.
Shonen gets a takedown into half guard.
Shonen not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Newport tries to roll over but Shonen keeps him under control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shonen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Newport's head.

Newport gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shonen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Shonen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shonen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Newport is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Shonen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Newport controls Shonen momentarily but Shonen frees himself.

Chael Shonen dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Newport throws a nice outside leg kick.
Shonen tries to close the distance and clinch but Newport swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Newport quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Shonen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Newport did well to prevent Shonen getting side control.
Shonen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Newport!
Shonen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Shonen has control of Newport's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Newport regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Shonen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Newport's face.

Chael Shonen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Shonen fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Newport is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Newport walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shonen checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A little jabbing left from Shonen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

No joy there for Newport, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shonen darts in looking for a takedown but Newport gets double underhooks and turns Shonen into the cage.
Thomas Newport has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Shonen.
Newport throws a jab but it's blocked by Shonen.
Newport is looking to score with low kicks.
Newport misses with a hook to the body
and Shonen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shonen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Newport on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Newport tries to get out of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shonen has an Americana. Newport didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Shonen is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Shonen hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

A determined Chael Shonen didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
