PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kewken Bewken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller's entrance music is Pump It Louder!!!. A fine choice. Kewken Bewken told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kewken Bewken!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Miller misses with a jab, cross combination.

Bewken feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bewken avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Miller wants to sweep but no luck.

Bewken wanted to stand there but Miller had control of the position.
Bewken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miller is on top in guard.
Bewken really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miller. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bewken is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bewken can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Miller stopping the sweep attempt from Bewken.
Bewken is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Miller keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Miller shoots in for a double leg but Bewken sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bewken has a takedown stuffed.

Miller throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Miller tries to bum rush Bewken with a series of wild strikes but Bewken uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Bewken closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bewken is looking to take a break and control but Miller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Miller manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Miller is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bewken is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Miller is looking for a triangle but Bewken pushes his legs off easily.

Bewken gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Miller misses with a series of wild punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bewken is looking to clinch but Miller is avoiding it.

Bewken drives through and clinches with Miller against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Miller dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Bewken has taken the fight to the clinch.

Bewken turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Miller gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Bewken seems to be working for a kimura but Miller defends the submission attempt.

Miller has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Bewken. Oh but Miller has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Bewken goes limp - he's gone! Miller jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
