Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gord Downey (ranked 3372 p4p, 3197 weight class) and Rhys Cadwgan (ranked 265 p4p, 360 weight class). Cadwgan has chosen Squeeze the Fruit - The Commodores as his entrance music. Gord Downey had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Gord Downey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rhys Cadwgan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cadwgan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Downey circles away quickly and effectively.
Downey defending well as Cadwgan loads up on a big left hand.
Cadwgan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Downey.

Cadwgan throws a hook but Downey blocks it.

Downey drives through with a takedown into Cadwgan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cadwgan looking for a guillotine here but Downey defends easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Downey's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Downey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cadwgan's guard.

Cadwgan has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Downey has passed into side control.
Cadwgan is not content to let Downey control the position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Downey looks up at the clock and then as Cadwgan takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Downey smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round but I would say that Gord Downey will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Cadwgan is trying to push Downey away but Downey has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Cadwgan wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Downey has him pressed against the cage.
Downey has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cadwgan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Cadwgan doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cadwgan pushes Downey back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Downey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cadwgan manages to get himself to full guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cadwgan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Downey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
