PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gregor Reilly (ranked 1270 p4p, 1506 weight class) and Marc Schlager (ranked 135 p4p, 155 weight class). Reilly's entrance music is Cannonball/ The Breeders. A fine choice. The key to victory for Gregor Reilly has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gregor Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Marc Schlager!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reilly scores with a nice right hand.
Schlager looks to clinch
and Reilly cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Schlager looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Schlager closes the distance but Reilly moves to the side
and Reilly counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Reilly changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Schlager closes the distance and clinches.
Reilly misses with a punch to the body.
Schlager blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Schlager prevents Reilly from breaking the clinch.
Schlager is trying to pull guard but Reilly turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Reilly lands a body punch in the clinch.
Reilly goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Reilly tries to break free but Schlager pushes him back against the cage.
Reilly lands with a right to the head.
Schlager is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Reilly to keep the fight standing.
Reilly fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Reilly breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reilly tries to keep at a distance but Schlager has taken the fight into the clinch.

Schlager pulls guard.
Reilly is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Reilly continues to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reilly tries to stand but Schlager is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly sitting in guard here, content to control.
Reilly wants to control from the top but Schlager keeps moving.

Schlager working for submissions but it's allowed Reilly to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reilly controlling the action here.
Reilly tries to pass the half guard into mount. Schlager knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Schlager blocking the ground and pound attempt from Reilly.
Reilly looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schlager is staying active underneath Reilly, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Reilly smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Reilly connects with a single shot there.
Reilly lands a body shot.
Marc Schlager seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schlager tries to clinch but Reilly moves away
and Reilly counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Schlager tries to clinch up but Reilly circles away and keeps his distance.
Schlager has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Schlager moves into the clinch.

Reilly manages to break the clinch.
Reilly connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reilly connects with a crisp jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Schlager looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Reilly seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Nice uppercut there from Reilly.
Reilly feints a jab promting Schlager to slip. Reilly then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Schlager slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Schlager tries to clinch but Reilly moves away
and Reilly counters with a nice uppercut.
Reilly works Schlager's body with a nice hook.
Schlager closes the distance but Reilly moves to the side
and Reilly counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Reilly lands a lovely overhand right.

Reilly lands a big right hand that sends Schlager crashing to the mat! Reilly stays standing though and waves Schlager back to his feet!

Schlager is rocked!
Reilly is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Schlager tries to clinch but Reilly moves away
and Reilly counters with a left to the body.
Schlager is still on wobbly legs! Can Reilly finish him?
Schlager gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Reilly gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gregor Reilly!
Gregor Reilly decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
