The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russeau just misses with a punch to the body.

Kartel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kartel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Russeau tries to lock up and control but Kartel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Russeau keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Russeau is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kartel jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Russeau manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Russeau is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Russeau prevents Kartel from improving position.
Russeau is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Russeau tries to kick Kartel off but Kartel keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Kartel drops back looking for a leg! Russeau is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Russeau manages to kick Kartel off! Kartel jumps back into Russeau's guard.

Russeau had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kartel is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Russeau Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kartel's back instead.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kartel tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Kartel gets back to half guard.

Kartel tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Russeau manages to move to mount!
Russeau prevents Kartel from getting the reversal.

Russeau is going olschool here, as he tries to force Kartel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kartel shrugs it off.

Kartel manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Kartel is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Russeau pulls his head out easily.

Kartel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Russeau's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Russeau's back!

Russeau is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kartel gets his way!

Russeau is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Russeau manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kartel's guard. Nice work there by Russeau.
Russeau wants to control from the top but Kartel keeps moving.
Kartel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Russeau is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kartel has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Russeau should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Kartel has tightened it up now! Russeau should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
