PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gunner (ranked 3458 p4p, 3589 weight class) and Dong Hyun Kim (ranked 379 p4p, 392 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kim's choice of entrance music: Danza Kuduro. The key to victory for Tommy Gunner has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Gunner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dong Hyun Kim!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunner lands a head kick. Kim smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

It looks like Dong Hyun Kim has been cut.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gunner enables Kim to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gunner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Kim postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gunner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kim, into his guard.

Gunner trying to control the position from guard on top but Kim is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kim can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim wants to sweep but no luck.
Gunner wants to pass the guard but Kim is keeping the position.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gunner wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.
Kim has momentary wrist control but Gunner slips an elbow through the middle.
Gunner working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kim is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Gunner trying to control but Kim is working from the bottom.
Kim is trying to control the position but Gunner postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gunner lands a couple of elbows.
Kim trying to control the position.
Gunner postures up in Kim's guard and throws a big left but Kim blocks it.
Gunner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gunner is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Gunner throws a strike but Kim rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gunner trying to control the position.
Kim wants to control from the top but Gunner keeps moving.
Gunner working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kim.
Kim postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gunner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kim postures up and lands a big shot to Gunner's brow.
Gunner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gunner is trying to keep Kim in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kim postures up in Gunner's guard and throws a big left but Gunner blocks it.

Gunner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kim manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kim wants to control from the top but Gunner keeps moving.
Kim is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Gunner is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Gunner's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Dong Hyun Kim!
Dong Hyun Kim seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
