Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Tommi Ritola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Nickels!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ritola takes one to the side of the head.
Nickels throws a head kick but Ritola moves out of range.
Nickels checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Ritola lands with a cross.
It looks like Jimmy Nickels has been cut.
Nickels shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ritola as he jumps to the side.
Ritola was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Ritola tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Nickels throws a shot to the body.
Nickels scores with a one two! Ritola had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ritola lands with a right hand.
Ritola slaps away a takedown attempt from Nickels, before circling back to the center of the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nickels throws a body shot but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Good standup being displayed there by Ritola as he connects with a hook.
Nickels rushes Ritola and presses him up against the cage.
Nickels breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ritola throws a front kick that sends Nickels stumbling back into the cage.
Ritola swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nickels.
Ritola lands a jab.
Ritola circles away from the clinch attempt
and Ritola counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Jimmy Nickels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nickels throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nickels doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ritola counters with a good low kick that Nickels was not able to check.
Tommi Ritola has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jimmy Nickels.
Nickels looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nickels walks straight into a right hand from Ritola - that's dropped him! Ritola jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Nickels from any more punishment! Nickels complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Tommi Ritola!
