PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Roy Jackson (ranked 4108 p4p, 5156 weight class) and Said Abdulayev (ranked 269 p4p, 0 weight class). Abdulayev has chosen Thé à la Menthe Instrumental as his entrance music. Said Abdulayev acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Roy Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Said Abdulayev!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abdulayev has closed the distance and engaged Jackson in a clinch.
Abdulayev tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Abdulayev turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Abdulayev manages to end up in side control.
Jackson is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Abdulayev is controlling him well.
Abdulayev is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Let's hope that Abdulayev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Abdulayev tries to stand but Jackson is controlling his head.
Jackson is trying to escape the position but Abdulayev is controlling the position.
Jackson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Abdulayev shoots in and drives through. Jackson sprawls well.
Jackson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Jackson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Abdulayev has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jackson is looking for a kimura but Abdulayev is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jackson to get the leverage.
Abdulayev is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jackson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Abdulayev is defending against the submission attempts here by Jackson.

Abdulayev seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Roy Jackson will probably get the nod.

Jackson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Abdulayev looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Abdulayev looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Abdulayev!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jackson wants to get back to his feet.

Abdulayev wants to control but Jackson is keeping him busy.

Abdulayev is looking to take a break and control but Jackson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abdulayev closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Abdulayev pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Jackson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Jackson has gone for a leg lock! Abdulayev slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jackson's guard.

Said Abdulayev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Abdulayev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Abdulayev is defended easily by Jackson.

Jackson tries to counter with a takedown but Abdulayev is quick to defend against it.
Abdulayev fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jackson avoids it really well and circles away.
Jackson attempts a counter takedown but Abdulayev avoids it well and moves away.
Jackson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Abdulayev finds it's way round the side to connect with Jackson's head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Abdulayev.
Jackson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Abdulayev sprawls and moves away.

Abdulayev clinches.

Jackson tightens his grip and picks Abdulayev up, before dumping him to the ground. Abdulayev manages to land in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jackson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Abdulayev manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jackson has Abdulayev in his guard.

Abdulayev stays in close to Jackson's body and controls the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Said Abdulayev.
I think Abdulayev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Said Abdulayev decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
