SSG 291 McCain vs Johnson PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 33 wins and 19 losses; John McCain! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 17 wins and 13 losses; Drake Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and David Schapiro.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson goes for a double leg but McCain avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McCain continues to drive forward.
McCain feinted with a counter takedown.
Drake Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCain leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
McCain attempts a counter takedown but Johnson avoids it well and moves away.

We've been hearing good reports from McCain's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
