The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Pérez. Beautiful body shot.
Pérez connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Gracie uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pérez.
Gracie just misses with a punch to the body.
Pérez swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Pérez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gracie manages to avoid it.
Pérez throws a series of punches but Gracie moves out of range.
Gracie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pérez was well out of range. Poor timing from Gracie.
Pérez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gracie.
Gracie goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Ariel Pérez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie throws a leg kick that misses.
Pérez misses with a looping right.

Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pérez moves away.
Pérez lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pérez's guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gracie trying to control but Pérez is working from the bottom.
Pérez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie pushes down on Pérez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Pérez pushes Gracie off looking to stand but Gracie dives back in and keeps control.
Gracie is trying to control. Pérez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Gracie has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Pérez defend it? Gracie steps over the head and cranks it - Pérez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gracie!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Robert Gracie!
