PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joel Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Ace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freeman comes to the cage accompanied by Time to Pretend. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Joel Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kai Ace!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and James Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ace throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Freeman's waist but Freeman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ace off to one side.
A jab from Ace finds it's way through Freeman's defenses.
Ace fails with the takedown.
Ace shoots for a takedown but Freeman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Joel Freeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kai Ace.
Freeman moves in looking to clinch but Ace pushes him off.
Ace moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Freeman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Freeman stands up and beckons Ace to join him on the feet.
Freeman takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Freeman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ace doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Freeman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ace's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Freeman counters by clinching up.
Ace is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ace tries to land knees in the clinch but Freeman avoids the damage to the body.
Freeman lands a hook to the side of the head.

Freeman wants the takedown. Ace is fighting it off but Freeman persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ace's guard against the cage.

Freeman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ace's guard.
Ace is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ace tries to kick Freeman off but Freeman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Freeman passes to side control.
Freeman misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Ace is trying to control Freeman's posture but Freeman avoids it.
Ace tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Freeman is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ace has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ace wants to hold on but Freeman pushes him away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ace is trying desperately to improve position.
Freeman avoids the attempt from Ace to control.
Ace looks gassed!
Ace is desperately trying to improve his position but Freeman has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ace is looking to improve his position but Freeman isn't that keen on the idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ace wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Freeman.
Ace regains half guard.
Freeman passes into side control, despite Ace's attempt to control the position.
Freeman has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Ace!

Ace is working to avoid the ground and pound but Freeman connects with a decent elbow.
Freeman throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Ace manages to work his way to half guard, despite Freeman's best efforts.
Ace makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ace.

Ace has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Freeman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Freeman wants to pass the guard but Ace is keeping the position.

Ace fails with the takedown

and Freeman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ace's guard now.

Ace has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Freeman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Freeman stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Ace tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Freeman paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ace shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Freeman counters with a shoot takedown. Ace fights it but they end up in guard.
Freeman passes Ace's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ace wants to improve his position but Freeman is controlling well.
Ace makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ace.
Ace keeping moving, preventing Freeman from controlling successfully.

Ace working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Freeman has passed into half guard!
Freeman is looking to take a break and control but Ace is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ace is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Freeman's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Freeman's back!

Freeman is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Freeman turns into Ace and is now in his guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ace wriggles free and stands up.
Freeman blocks a head kick by Ace.

Ace has managed to clinch.
Ace comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Ace tries to score a body lock takedown but Freeman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Ace is looking to sinch up a triangle. Freeman throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Ace's body to avoid the submission. Ace has instead reached around Freeman's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Ace arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
