PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cottoneye Joe (ranked 1271 p4p, 1287 weight class) and Tomas Tetrev (ranked 78 p4p, 46 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cottoneye Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tomas Tetrev!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

It looks like Tomas Tetrev has been cut.
Tetrev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
As Tetrev tries to get set, Joe tries to push him back and clinch up but Tetrev manages to avoid the attempt.

Tetrev lands with a left to the head.
Joe trying to land knees to the body.
Joe lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Tetrev has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Joe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Joe throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Tetrev blocks it with crossed arms.
Our sources have told us that Joe has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Joe takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Joe is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Tetrev's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Joe throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
It seemed like Tetrev was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Tetrev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Tetrev throws a jab but it's blocked by Joe.
Tetrev fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Joe looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Tetrev is rocked!
Joe jerks Tetrev's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Tetrev drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Joe goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Joe because Tetrev was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.
