PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Walker Peters (ranked 4675 p4p, 4624 weight class) and Dylan James (ranked 297 p4p, 291 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Walker Peters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dylan James!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Peters.
Peters blocks a head kick by James.
Peters comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peters sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.
James throws a body shot but no joy.
Peters tries to clinch but James moves out of range.

Peters gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Peters breaks from the clinch.
Peters shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. James defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Peters fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
James looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James doesn't manage to clinch there - Peters circles away.
James tries for a takedown but Peters sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Walker Peters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dylan James.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Peters paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Peters wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Peters looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Peters looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Peters trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
James wants to stand and escape but Peters is having none of it.
Peters wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Peters gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
James pulls Peters in to control the position.
James wants to stand but Peters is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Peters fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Peters persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James controlling the position well.
James wants to control the action here but instead Peters manages to pass to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James regains half guard.
Peters is looking to advance position but James won't allow it.
James is trying to maintain the position but Peters is very close to passing his half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James trying to get back to full guard but Peters takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Peters looking to finish with strikes here!
Peters wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.
Peters throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James tries to hold on but Peters pushes him away.
Peters throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walker Peters dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Peters sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.
James shoots for a double leg takedown but Peters sprawls well. He's pushed James's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
James lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
James throws a sloppy head kick
and Peters counters with a left and a right that stings James.
James fails in his attempt to clinch.
Peters feinted with a counter takedown.

Peters shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
James is wriggling around but Peters manages to pass to half guard.

Peters tries to stand but can't do so whilst James controls his leg.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Peters is trying to control the action in half guard but James is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Peters trying to control from James's half guard. James has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Peters looking to improve position, pressing down on James's thigh with his hand. James seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Peters paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Peters's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! James picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Dylan James!
Dylan James spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
