PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Yaroslav (ranked 3900 p4p, 3647 weight class) and Don Gable (ranked 379 p4p, 359 weight class). Vladimir Yaroslav had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.6lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Gable!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yaroslav shoots in for a double leg but Gable sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Yaroslav gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gable to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gable throws a strike but Yaroslav rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gable has control of Yaroslav's left arm, preventing Yaroslav from doing any damage.
Gable really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yaroslav. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gable looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yaroslav is one step ahead there.

Yaroslav drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gable looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gable looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gable!

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gable looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Yaroslav tries to buck Gable off but Gable is having none of it.
Yaroslav definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Yaroslav prevents Gable from moving into mount.
Gable has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Tappelukerho. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Gable throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Gable landing strikes.
Yaroslav seems a little lost for a moment, as Gable dominates the positioning.
Gable is looking to take a break and control but Yaroslav is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee asks Gable politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Gable prefers to stall for the moment though.

Yaroslav tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gable wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gable cracks Yaroslav with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

It looks like Vladimir Yaroslav has been cut.
Don Gable seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Yaroslav or perhaps it was just good defense by Gable, which made it look bad.
Yaroslav is breathing heavily.

Gable lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Gable lands a left and a right that send Yaroslav crashing to the mat, dazed. Gable thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Yaroslav is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gable connects with a stiff jab that staggers Yaroslav - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Don Gable!
