PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robert Scott (ranked 3080 p4p, 3848 weight class) and Jaylin Yates (ranked 342 p4p, 411 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Scott!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jaylin Yates!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yates gets caught flat footed, as Scott shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Yates wants to stand and escape but Scott is having none of it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Scott's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Scott controlling from the top position.
Scott is pushing down on Yates's leg trying to pass to half guard. Yates is fighting to maintain full guard but Scott has managed to sneak the leg through.
Yates is trying to stand.
Scott lands strikes from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yates wants to get back to his feet.

Scott is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Still in half guard, Scott seems content to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Scott working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Scott is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Yates avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Scott.
Scott could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Scott content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Scott stops Yates from getting back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Scott in particular looking to stall.
Yates tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Scott takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Yates is looking to escape.
Scott controlling the action here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Scott looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Ground and pound from Scott.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scott perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Yates is trying to stand up here but Scott is controlling him well.
Scott tries to pass the half guard into mount. Yates knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Scott content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Scott seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Yates for as long as he can get away with.
Yates tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Scott takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yates pushes Scott off but Scott dives into side control.
Yates is letting Scott control him for a moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Scott dives in and scores a takedown into Yates's guard.
Yates is looking to stand back up but Scott counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Yates.
Scott has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Yates tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Scott is nestled in close to Yates, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott content to control rather than advance.

Scott seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Robert Scott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Scott prevents Yates from standing back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Scott tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Yates.
Scott controlling the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Yates throws a leg kick

and Scott counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Scott lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Scott looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Scott stops Yates from getting back to his feet.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Scott lands a nice short elbow.

Scott has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Scott is working for a submission of some sort.
Scott moves nicely into side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Yates is pushing Scott's head away, looking to escape. Scott manages to hold on to the position though.
Scott is looking to take a break and control but Yates is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Scott controls the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yates is trying to buck Scott off.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Yates throws a right and a left that both miss.
Scott lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Scott throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Yates tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Scott is in Yates's guard.
Scott passes Yates's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Scott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Yates can do to turn this around?
Scott is controlling the pace.
Yates is trying to stand back up but Scott is controlling him

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yates ducks under a wild hook from Scott.
A head kick misses from Yates.

Scott rushes Yates and presses him up against the ropes.
Scott tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Yates just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Scott pulls guard effortlessly.
Scott controlling the position.
Scott is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Scott has a closed guard, preventing Yates from standing up.
Scott bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yates's guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scott postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Scott stays in close to Yates's body and controls the position.
Yates wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Scott manages to pass to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Yates tries to kick Scott off in order to stand up. Scott Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Scott.
Scott's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Yates tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robert Scott showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Scott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
