PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Stan Man (ranked 1285 p4p, 2500 weight class) and Herve Villechaize (ranked 96 p4p, 181 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of London, Stan Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Herve Villechaize!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Man closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Villechaize quickly recovers to half guard.

Man is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Villechaize is looking for a sweep. Man is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Man looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Villechaize is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Villechaize is still trying to improve position.
Villechaize has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Man is working away from the top position though.

Villechaize is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Man's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Man's back!
Villechaize is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Man just trying to survive but Villechaize is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Man might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Man is trying to get back to his feet but Villechaize has full control of the position and if anything, Man has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Villechaize fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Man looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Villechaize with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Man is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Man connects with a nice short shot to Villechaize's temple.
Villechaize wants to get back to full guard.

Man keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Villechaize's head.

Villechaize looking to hit a scissor sweep but Man is one step ahead there.
Man seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Villechaize dives in for a single leg takedown but Man sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Man feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Man wants to stand but Villechaize is controlling his posture from full guard.
Villechaize is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Villechaize is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Man wants to control from the top but Villechaize keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Villechaize is on top in guard.

Man pulls Villechaize in close to prevent any damage.

Man is looking for a triangle but Villechaize pushes his legs off easily.

Man avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Man holds on and takes a little breather.
Villechaize working some strikes from top position.
Man seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Man controls Villechaize momentarily but Villechaize frees himself.
Man seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Villechaize stands and throws Man's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Man tries to bench press Villechaize off him but Villechaize keeps the position.
Herve Villechaize has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stan Man is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Man wants to get back to his feet.

Well Man has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
