Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cyrus Choi (ranked 25228 p4p, 5676 weight class) and Weston Gilmore (ranked 299 p4p, 288 weight class). Cyrus Choi has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cyrus Choi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Weston Gilmore!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilmore tries to close the distance and clinch up but Choi swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gilmore throws a head kick but Choi moves out of range.
Choi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gilmore throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Choi.
Gilmore wants to clinch up but Choi keeps it at a distance.
Gilmore shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gilmore moves in looking to clinch but Choi pushes him off.
Choi moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gilmore tries to score a power double leg takedown but Choi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gilmore somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Choi stuffs the takedown.
Cyrus Choi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Weston Gilmore.
Gilmore tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Choi stands up and waves to Gilmore to follow him.

Choi shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Choi throwing shots but Gilmore is blocking nicely.
Choi is pressing down on Gilmore's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gilmore is holding on for now.
Choi is taking a breather. Gilmore says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Choi tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Choi is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gilmore is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gilmore is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Choi is aware though and is defending well.
Choi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Choi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gilmore tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gilmore can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Choi controls the pace.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Choi lands with a straight right. Gilmore didn't see that one coming.

Choi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gilmore's guard.

Choi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Choi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Choi. No joy for Gilmore on that attempt.

Choi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gilmore is trying to control Choi's posture but Choi avoids it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Choi fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Gilmore wants to control but Choi postures up.

Choi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A lull in the action here as Choi stalls from top position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gilmore manages to get back to half guard.
Gilmore is trying to control but can't.
Choi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Choi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gilmore can do to turn this around?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gilmore shoots for a double leg takedown but Choi sprawls well. He's pushed Gilmore's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Choi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gilmore shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Choi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cyrus Choi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Weston Gilmore.
Gilmore is breathing heavily.
Gilmore tries to clinch
and Choi counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Choi throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Some wild striking there from Gilmore.
Gilmore shoots in looking for a takedown. Choi tries to sprawl out of it but Gilmore keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Choi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gilmore enables Choi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gilmore manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Choi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gilmore, up you get!
Cyrus Choi is winning the standup battle so far.
Choi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gilmore circles away.
Choi lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Choi has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gilmore is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Choi lands a nice shot to the body.
Gilmore is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gilmore is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Choi is defending well for now.

Choi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Choi feints and as Gilmore raises his hands in defense, Choi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cyrus Choi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Choi is stalling in the full guard.

Choi tries to free his leg and advance position but Gilmore is retaining full guard.

Gilmore is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Choi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gilmore, up you get!

Choi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gilmore on his heels. He'll look to pass Gilmore's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gilmore will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Choi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gilmore tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Choi is in Gilmore's guard.
Gilmore is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Choi is looking to improve his position.
Gilmore trying to control the action but Choi is working from the bottom.
Gilmore thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Gilmore is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Choi is just riding it out for now. Gilmore eventually gives up the hold.

Choi chips away with some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gilmore not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Choi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gilmore, pushing him back against the cage.
Weston Gilmore has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cyrus Choi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Gilmore is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Choi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
