The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Borgil tries for a takedown but Merkovic sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Merkovic enables Van Borgil to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Merkovic manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Merkovic is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Van Borgil is aware though and is defending well.

Merkovic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Van Borgil drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Merkovic dives on top into guard.

Van Borgil manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Merkovic manages to get himself to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Merkovic has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Van Borgil is working away from the top position though.

Van Borgil maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Merkovic could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Van Borgil has cracked it and Merkovic is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Van Borgil!
