PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ngannou Jones (ranked 3403 p4p, 3776 weight class) and Karl Marx (ranked 361 p4p, 383 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ngannou Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Karl Marx!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marx will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Karl Marx seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Marx is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones.
Good leg kick by Jones.
Jones throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Jones thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Marx if he has to take too many more of those.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Marx.
Marx throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Marx throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Marx throws a push kick but Jones slaps the foot to one side.
Marx looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jones throws a half hearted mid kick.
Marx blocks the body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Marx as he avoids it easily.
Marx throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.

Marx swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Marx swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jones is looking to clinch but Marx is avoiding it.

Marx takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Marx's face.
Jones looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Jones pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Marx is in a horrible position here. Jones smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Marx is looking to escape.
Jones won't let Marx get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Marx really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Marx to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Marx shrugs it off.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jones won't let Marx get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marx can do anything to dispel that myth.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Marx misses with a few strikes there.

Marx unleashes a big counter combination but Jones bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Marx fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Marx counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Marx fails to land with a series of punches.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ngannou Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Marx.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jones has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Marx is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Jones yanks on the arm and Marx is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Jones.
