PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mamed Khalidov (ranked 4045 p4p, 24876 weight class) and Nathan Lee (ranked 397 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mamed Khalidov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nathan Lee!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee closes the distance and clinches up with Khalidov, looking for a takedown. Lee pushes Khalidov against the cage but Khalidov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Khalidov waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lee.

Lee moves into the clinch successfully.
Khalidov is trying to drag Lee to the mat but Lee just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Lee lands a takedown into guard.
Khalidov is looking to stand back up but Lee counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Khalidov.


Lee looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khalidov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Well, if Lee is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Khalidov taking some punishment here, with Lee in his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lee decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Lee looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Khalidov looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khalidov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lee looking for a sweep. Not yet Lee, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee working a defensive guard here.
Khalidov trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lee is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Khalidov wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Khalidov is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Khalidov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Khalidov shoots in and drives through. Lee sprawls well.
Khalidov is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lee shoots in looking for a takedown but Khalidov manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lee's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mamed Khalidov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Lee.
Khalidov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Lee looking to score a takedown here. Khalidov is defending well but Lee drives through and ends up in Khalidov's guard.
Lee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lee chips away with some ground and pound.
Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Khalidov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nathan Lee will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Khalidov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.

Lee drives through with a takedown into Khalidov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Lee stands up from Khalidov's guard - Lee perhaps looking for a knockout.

Lee fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Khalidov, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khalidov tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lee smiles and moves away.

Lee manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Khalidov on his heels. He'll look to pass Khalidov's guard now, I'm sure.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Nathan Lee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Khalidov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Khalidov throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lee's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Lee won't allow Khalidov to sweep him here.
Lee stays in close to Khalidov's body and controls the position.
Khalidov really is a fat lump.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lee slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Khalidov struggling a bit here.
Lee is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Khalidov will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Lee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee is continuing to stall.
Khalidov tries to buck Lee off but Lee is having none of it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Lee scoring with punches and elbows.
Lee controlling from side mount.
Lee's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Lee drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lee is stalling in the full guard.

Lee drops back looking for a leg! Khalidov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Khalidov manages to kick Lee off! Lee jumps back into Khalidov's guard.
Khalidov wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Lee is now in half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The fight stays on the outside here - Khalidov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Lee shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Khalidov looking for submissions off his back.
Khalidov tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Lee manages to move to mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khalidov takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
BOOM! Lee connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Khalidov working to try and regain half guard.
Khalidov has given up his back here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lee is cranking Khalidov's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Khalidov! He's tightened the choke and Khalidov is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nathan Lee!
