Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Amir Cooley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Van Franklin!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Franklin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cooley sprawls well initially but Franklin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Cooley flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Cooley trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Cooley wants to control but Franklin is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Franklin looking to control and managing it successfully.
Cooley is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cooley wants to hold on but Franklin pushes him away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cooley is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Franklin pulls his head out easily.
Cooley misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Franklin wants to stand up but Cooley has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Cooley flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Franklin tries to stand and escape but Cooley is controlling the position.

Franklin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Cooley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cooley tries to get out of the position.
Cooley is looking for a sweep. Franklin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Franklin in particular looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Franklin controlling the action here for a moment.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Franklin manages to break the clinch.
Franklin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Franklin changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Cooley misses with a takedown

and Franklin counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Cooley has Franklin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Franklin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Amir Cooley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cooley is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Franklin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cooley has a closed guard, preventing Franklin from standing up.

Franklin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Franklin tries to stand but Cooley is controlling from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Franklin closes the distance and clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Cooley's face as he tries to break the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Van Franklin dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Franklin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cooley.
Cooley tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Franklin swivels and escapes.

Franklin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cooley napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Cooley trying to control but Franklin flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Franklin controlling the positon.
Let's hope that Franklin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Franklin is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Cooley with him. Cooley is trying to defend but Franklin has an arm under the chin now! Cooley grimaces and is forced to tap out!
