Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gomes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gomes is looking to regain half guard here but Mendy keeps moving and retains side control.
Gomes takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Gomes tries to buck Mendy off but Mendy is having none of it.
Gomes keeps trying to improve his position.
Gomes is not content to let Mendy control the position.
Gomes is trying to get back to half guard.
Mendy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gomes keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendy tries to pass to full mount but Gomes defends it.

Gomes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mendy pulls his head out easily.
Mendy is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Gomes wants to improve his position but Mendy is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomes makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gomes.
Mendy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Gomes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mendy is one step ahead there.

Gomes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mendy defends well.

Mendy avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gomes is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Mendy frees his head nicely. Oh but Gomes has switched to an armbar! Mendy is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
