Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gord Birds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell's entrance music is It's Dark and Hell is hot. A fine choice. Chuck Liddell could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Gord Birds's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gord Birds!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birds tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Liddell swivels and escapes.
Liddell swinging wilding here.
Birds wants to clinch up but Liddell keeps it at a distance.
Liddell blocks a jab.
Liddell keeps the fight on the outside.
Birds moves in looking to clinch but Liddell pushes him off.
Birds throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Birds misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Liddell clinches.
Liddell keeps control of Birds as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Liddell manages to break the clinch.

Liddell stuffs the takedown attempt from Birds. Birds gets slowly back to his feet.

Birds shoots in for a takedown but Liddell shows good takedown defense.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

and Liddell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Birds's guard.

Birds wants to stand but Liddell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Birds looks gassed!
Birds wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Liddell throws a solid leg kick but Birds takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Liddell.
Liddell fails to land with a series of punches.

Gord Birds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liddell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Liddell throws and low kick but Birds moves out of range easily.

and Liddell counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Birds!
Birds tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Poor strikes thrown by Liddell there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Birds wants to hold on but Liddell pushes him away.

Liddell swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Birds is now in Liddell's guard. A big mistake from Liddell there, giving up the dominant position!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Birds looking to pass the guard.
Birds working some strikes from top position.
Birds pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Liddell is keeping the position for now.
Liddell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Liddell tries to get out of the position.
Birds controls from within his opponent's guard.

Birds wants to pass the guard but Liddell is keeping the position.
Birds is looking to stand up but Liddell won't let him.
Liddell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Birds can't escape the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Birds's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Birds is breathing heavily.
Birds working to try and regain half guard.
Liddell lands with some strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Birds is in a horrible position here. Liddell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Birds darts in trying to clinch

so Liddell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Birds looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Birds is trying to keep Liddell in close.
Birds wants to get back to his feet but Liddell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Birds trying to keep a closed guard but Liddell is proving a slippery customer.
Birds takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Birds is looking to stand up but Liddell isn't so interested in that idea.
Birds is trying to control the position but Liddell postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Liddell stands up and waves to Birds to follow him.
Liddell swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Birds shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Liddell counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Liddell.
Birds looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Liddell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Birds keeping moving, preventing Liddell from controlling successfully.

Liddell wants to control from the top but Birds keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Birds is on top in guard.

Liddell pushes Birds off and gets back to his feet.

and Liddell counters with an inside leg kick.
Birds shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

And that's the end of the fight!
Chuck Liddell showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Liddell has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
