PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mohan Draxinger (ranked 2758 p4p, 2704 weight class) and Stefano Del Monte (ranked 328 p4p, 325 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mohan Draxinger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stefano Del Monte!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Del Monte avoids the head kick by Draxinger.
Draxinger throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Del Monte throws a right and a left that both miss.
Draxinger keeps the fight on the outside.
Draxinger throws a lazy right hand but Del Monte sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Draxinger takes a jab right on the kisser.
Draxinger looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
The fight stays on the outside here - Del Monte looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Del Monte lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Draxinger closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Draxinger takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

and Draxinger counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

Del Monte takes the fight into the clinch.

Draxinger breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Draxinger takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Del Monte moves in looking to clinch but Draxinger pushes him off.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Draxinger wants to break free but Del Monte has control.

Del Monte escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Draxinger tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Del Monte scores with a sloppy right hand. Draxinger should have avoided that one.

It looks like Mohan Draxinger has been cut.

and Draxinger counters with a big head kick but Del Monte shrugs it off.
Nice uppercut there from Del Monte.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Draxinger counters with a crisp one two that drops Del Monte! Draxinger thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Del Monte to his feet! Del Monte is in big trouble!

No joy there for Del Monte, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
A counter left hand to the body from Draxinger misses its target.
Del Monte seems to have recovered his senses.

Draxinger tries to circle away but Del Monte has him pinned against the cage.

Draxinger is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Del Monte is keeping busy.
Del Monte throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Draxinger wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Del Monte has him pressed against the cage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Del Monte is trying to push Draxinger away but Draxinger has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Del Monte creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Draxinger's defenses.
Draxinger misses with a knee to the head.

Draxinger's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Del Monte scores with a nice head shot.
Draxinger circles away from the clinch attempt.

Draxinger takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Del Monte throws a right and a left that both miss.

And Draxinger counters with a quick kick to the body but Del Monte blocks it.
Draxinger has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Del Monte finds it's way round the side to connect with Draxinger's head.

Draxinger throws a chopping leg kick but Del Monte manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Del Monte lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Del Monte tries to close the distance and clinch up but Draxinger swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Del Monte drives through and clinches with Draxinger against the cage.
Del Monte has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Draxinger seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Del Monte can turn it around.

Draxinger throws a leg kick which misses Del Monte's front leg but catches the back leg as Del Monte tries to avoid it.

Draxinger throws the kick towards the body but Del Monte avoids it.
Del Monte is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Draxinger swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Del Monte wants to counter with a clinch but Draxinger pushes him away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Del Monte crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Draxinger - the referee stops the clock and Del Monte gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Draxinger. Del Monte manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Del Monte might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Del Monte circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Draxinger to the canvas! Draxinger doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Del Monte keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
