PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blaze Tran (ranked 3904 p4p, 4218 weight class) and Hamza Kosen (ranked 153 p4p, 174 weight class). The key to victory for Blaze Tran has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Blaze Tran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hamza Kosen!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tran closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kosen's guard.
Tran trying to control but Kosen is working from the bottom.
Kosen trying to control the position here.
Kosen wants to stand up but Tran is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kosen throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tran is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kosen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kosen ducks under a wild hook from Tran.
Kosen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Kosen takes the fight into the clinch.
Tran looking to stall.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Kosen is trying to trip Tran. He has hold of a leg but Tran is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kosen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Kosen advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kosen is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Kosen throwing shots but Tran is blocking nicely.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kosen working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Kosen not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kosen lands a nice short elbow.

Tran might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tran keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kosen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Tran is breathing heavily.
Tran has hold of Kosen's hands but Kosen slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kosen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tran with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kosen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kosen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Tran definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kosen lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Tran quite badly. Tran pulls Kosen in close trying to recover. Kosen postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Tran on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Tran doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hamza Kosen!
