PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pyotr Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Pyotr Kalashnikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stephen Burns!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalashnikov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Burns scores with a takedown into Kalashnikov's guard.
Kalashnikov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burns on the ground.
Kalashnikov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Burns pushing down on Kalashnikov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Burns is stalling here. Kalashnikov is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Burns seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kalashnikov has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Burns is trying to improve his position.
Burns wants to control but Kalashnikov postures up.

Burns tries to buck Kalashnikov off but Kalashnikov is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Burns's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Burns tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kalashnikov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Burns is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kalashnikov's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Burns makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Burns.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Burns looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kalashnikov is one step ahead there.

Burns pushes Kalashnikov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Burns tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kalashnikov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pyotr Kalashnikov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Burns tries to clinch but Kalashnikov is having none of it.

Burns on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kalashnikov. Kalashnikov obviously looking to wear him down.
Burns fails to land the takedown.
Burns shoots for a takedown but Kalashnikov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pyotr Kalashnikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephen Burns.
Burns takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kalashnikov lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Burns is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Burns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kalashnikov swivels and escapes.
Burns tries to clinch up but Kalashnikov circles away and keeps his distance.

Burns closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kalashnikov to the mat! Kalashnikov manages to get full guard.

Burns slips nicely into half guard.

Burns stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Burns fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kalashnikov avoids it really well and circles away.

Burns looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Kalashnikov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Burns sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kalashnikov's guard.
Burns is just content to waste time from the top position. Kalashnikov takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Burns is breathing heavily.

Burns won't allow Kalashnikov to get back to his feet.
Kalashnikov keeping full guard, as Burns tries to pass.
Burns is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Burns throws and elbow that misses. Kalashnikov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Burns's guard. Nice move by Kalashnikov!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Burns looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kalashnikov is one step ahead there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Burns is looking to land body kicks.

Nice sprawl there from Kalashnikov as Burns shoots in.
Burns will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Burns looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kalashnikov as he avoids it easily.
Kalashnikov is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Stephen Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kalashnikov fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Burns.
Burns shoots in looking for a takedown. Kalashnikov tries to sprawl out of it but Burns keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kalashnikov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kalashnikov stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

An inside leg kick lands from Kalashnikov.
Burns tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kalashnikov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burns somewhat.
Kalashnikov moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kalashnikov lands a jab to the nose.
Burns's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Burns changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kalashnikov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Burns goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kalashnikov has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Burns but great work by Kalashnikov.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Stephen Burns will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Burns takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kalashnikov stuffs the takedown attempt from Burns. Burns gets slowly back to his feet.
Good leg kick by Kalashnikov there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Burns is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kalashnikov stuffs the takedown attempt from Burns. Burns gets slowly back to his feet.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kalashnikov as he jumps to the side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lazy left from Kalashnikov finds it's target.
Burns takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Burns shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Burns is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Burns goes for an armbar but Kalashnikov turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kalashnikov.

Burns not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kalashnikov trying to stand up but can't free himself from Burns's guard.
Burns looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kalashnikov is one step ahead there.

Burns is looking for a triangle but Kalashnikov pushes his legs off easily.
Burns tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Burns stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kalashnikov.

Stephen Burns is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Burns is looking to take a break and control but Kalashnikov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

I've got Burns winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
