Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimbo Funk (ranked 4270 p4p, 3865 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 198 p4p, 0 weight class). Funk comes to the cage accompanied by We Got The Funk. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimbo Funk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz dives in and scores a takedown into Funk's guard.
Diaz is standing up over Funk. Funk looks to escape but Diaz dives into side control.
Funk is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Diaz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Diaz is trying to get an arm triangle but Funk is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Funk is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Diaz asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Funk is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Diaz is controlling him well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Funk, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Diaz tries to advance to mount but Funk denies him.
Funk is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Diaz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Funk wriggles free and stands up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Diaz pushes Funk up against the cage in a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Funk's waist but Funk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.
Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Funk pinned against the cage. Funk gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Funk clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage.

Funk drags the fight down to the ground.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Funk is keeping the position.

Funk wants to get back to his feet but Diaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Diaz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Funk dives on top into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Funk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Funk lands a couple of elbows.
Funk with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Funk wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Diaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Funk is aware though and is defending well.
Funk has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Funk passes Diaz's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Funk is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Diaz sees it coming and defends easily.

Diaz is looking to control Funk's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?

Funk throws a strike but Diaz avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Diaz seems keen to control Funk's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Funk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Funk throws a strike but Diaz rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Funk manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Funk manages to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Funk keeps moving.

Nate Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Funk wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Diaz manages to pass to side control.

Diaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jimbo Funk dominated that second round.
That's time! Funk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Funk is looking to get back to is feet but Diaz passes into side control.

Diaz is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Funk is trying to escape and Diaz transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Funk is forced to tap! Nice work there by Diaz! Very nice indeed!
