PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Colby Taylor (ranked 338 p4p, 662 weight class) and Jeremy King (ranked 22 p4p, 43 weight class). King is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hail to the King - Avenged Sevenfold. Jeremy King will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Colby Taylor!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeremy King!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Taylor was well out of range. Poor timing from King.
Taylor definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Taylor throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A countering left hand to the body from King misses.
Taylor misses with a hook
and King counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Taylor tries to clinch up.
A slow jab from Taylor misses its intended target.
Taylor lands with a right hand.
The crowd cheers as Taylor lands an impressive looking overhand right. King doesn't seem phased though.
Taylor moves in looking to clinch but King pushes him off.
Taylor throws a sloppy body shot
and King counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Taylor moves out of range as King strikes.
King scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Taylor doesn't seem bothered though.
Taylor misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.
A nice side step and King releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
A telegraphed right hand from Taylor misses the target.
A slow jab from Taylor misses its intended target.
King let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
King on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Taylor lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Taylor clinches up against the cage.

King pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Taylor is looking to clinch.
King appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
King looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
King misses with a straight right.
Taylor wants to clinch
and King counters with a lovely straight right hand!
King throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Taylor stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
King circles away from the clinch attempt
letting King counter with a right hand.
King walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
King just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice defenses there by King.
King doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Colby Taylor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Taylor clinches up against the cage.
Taylor lands an uppercut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A right hand to the body from King.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Taylor lands a nice shot to the body.

Taylor pulls King into guard.
King sitting in guard here, content to control.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Taylor has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.

King has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Taylor to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! King is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Taylor pulls down on the head and he's put King to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Colby Taylor!

After winning the bout, Colby Taylor thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
