PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Rusher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes to the cage accompanied by Ambitionz Az A Ridah. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stephen Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Rusher!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jonathan Paton and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson scores with a one two! Rusher had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Lance Rusher has been cut.
Jackson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rusher swivels and escapes.

and Jackson counters by clinching up.
Rusher is pressed up against the cage. Jackson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rusher down to the mat. Rusher avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Rusher misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jackson.
Jackson connects with a nice looking jab.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch but Rusher swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jackson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Jackson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Rusher throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Rusher lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jackson!

Jackson tries to lock up and control but Rusher gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jackson is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Rusher lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jackson scores with a few weak punches.
Rusher is thwarting Jackson's attempts to control the position.
Jackson is concentrating on defense, preventing Rusher from advancing position.
Rusher frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jackson is squirming around, avoiding Rusher's attempts to control the action.

Jackson tries to hold on but Rusher postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Rusher takes the fight into the clinch.

Rusher manages to break the clinch.
Rusher lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rusher looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jackson closes the distance and clinches up with Rusher, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes Rusher against the cage but Rusher circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rusher tries to clinch up but Jackson circles away and keeps his distance.
Jackson misses with a takedown attempt - Rusher sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jackson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rusher is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rusher tries to reverse the position but Jackson maintains control.

Rusher is bucking up trying to escape but Jackson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jackson throwing strikes but Rusher recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Jackson prevents Rusher from standing back up.
Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Rusher is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Rusher is defending well.
Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but Rusher is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rusher drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rusher controls the position.
Jackson struggling a bit here.

Rusher is trying to get an arm triangle but Jackson is defending well.
Jackson is not content to let Rusher control the position.
Jackson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rusher with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Rusher wants to control but Jackson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Jackson prevents Rusher from improving his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jackson shoots in and drives through. Rusher sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephen Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rusher pushes Jackson up against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rusher walks away with a smile on his face. Jackson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rusher throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jackson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Rusher tries to clinch there but Jackson circles away.
Rusher gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Jackson gets the takedown into side control.
Rusher is not content to let Jackson control the position.
Rusher is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rusher lands with a kick to the temple. Jackson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Stephen Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rusher looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jackson!
Rusher has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jackson's face.
Jackson reaches up to try and control the position but Rusher seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Jackson rolls and tries to escape and now Rusher has his back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rusher tries to control but Jackson wriggling away.
Jackson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Rusher trying to control the pace.
Rusher wants to take a breather but Jackson is having none of it.
Jackson is looking to control Rusher's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jackson avoid being mounted?
Jackson pushes Rusher off looking to stand but Rusher dives back in and keeps control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lance Rusher comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
