PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Euan Daxton (ranked 663 p4p, 2651 weight class) and John McCoy (ranked 100 p4p, 330 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Euan Daxton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John McCoy!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Good exchange - McCoy coming out on top.
Daxton walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. McCoy checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
McCoy cracks Daxton with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Daxton misses with a jab to the body
and McCoy counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
McCoy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As McCoy tries to get set, Daxton tries to push him back and clinch up but McCoy manages to avoid the attempt.
A clash of legs there as McCoy blocks the low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCoy misses with a series of wild punches.

Daxton looks to land a left hand but McCoy moved out of range nicely.
Daxton throws a leg kick that is checked
and McCoy counters with a straight right hand.
Daxton throws a lazy uppercut
and McCoy counters with a stiff right hand.

It looks like Euan Daxton has been cut.
Daxton throws a poor cross that misses

and McCoy counters with a nice right hand that sends Daxton toppling to the canvas! Daxton scrambles and gets back to his feet - can McCoy finish him?!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Daxton moves into the clinch successfully.
Daxton definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
McCoy working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
McCoy misses with a punch on the inside.
McCoy's coach down at A Stander’s Paradise was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on McCoy's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, McCoy just misses with a elbow thrown towards Daxton's brow.
Daxton blocks an uppercut.
Daxton takes an elbow to the temple.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for McCoy.

McCoy breaks the clinch.
Daxton ducks under a wild hook from McCoy.
McCoy connects with the punch.
McCoy works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
McCoy throws a hook to the side of Daxton's head but Daxton sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
McCoy looks to land a right hand but Daxton moved out of range.
Daxton tries to counter by clinching up but McCoy breaks away and moves out of range.
McCoy might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Daxton misses with a low kick as McCoy jumps back.
McCoy slips under a jab.
Daxton throws a shot from downtown. McCoy moves away and avoids it.
Daxton throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Daxton lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and McCoy has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from McCoy and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
McCoy connects with a nice looking jab.

Daxton throws an ugly left hook that misses
and McCoy counters with a three punch combo that has Daxton backing up. Daxton nods at McCoy to acknowledge the strikes.
Daxton misses with a low kick as McCoy jumps back.
McCoy looks like he wants to counter punch here.
McCoy throws a lazy right hand but Daxton sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McCoy is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Daxton had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
A combination from McCoy does no damage.
McCoy throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Daxton is looking to clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

John McCoy dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Euan Daxton's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

John McCoy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McCoy uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Daxton has McCoy up against the cage in a clinch.
Daxton lands with a short shot to the head.
Daxton misses with some punches.
McCoy lands with a left to the head.

Daxton throws a chopping leg kick but McCoy manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Daxton blocks a jab.
Daxton misses with a straight left.
McCoy swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Daxton looks to land a right hand but McCoy moved out of range.
Daxton's hands are dropping dangerously low here and McCoy connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Daxton scrambles back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Daxton throws an off balance right hand
and McCoy counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Daxton throws a hook but McCoy blocks it.

Oooooh!!! McCoy has knocked Daxton down with a huge combo! McCoy steps away and waves a wobbly Daxton back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Daxton is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McCoy lands a big right hand that sends Daxton crashing to the mat! McCoy stays standing though and waves Daxton back to his feet!
Oh Daxton is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Daxton slips under a jab from McCoy.

McCoy lands a big uppercut and Daxton crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Daxton looks OK. McCoy waves Daxton back to his feet!
McCoy throws a hook but Daxton blocks it.
Daxton wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

McCoy misses with a straight left.
Daxton seems to have got his legs back now.
McCoy takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
John McCoy seems to be getting the better of the standup.
McCoy throws a looping overhand right but Daxton ducks down to avoid it.
Daxton throws a solid leg kick but McCoy takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Daxton.
Daxton throws a leg kick but McCoy moved away.
McCoy fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Daxton on the side of the head.
Daxton throws a lazy right hand but McCoy sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Daxton throws a poor cross that misses
and McCoy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Daxton has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Daxton misses with a leg kick
and McCoy counters with a big right hand! Oh Daxton is in trouble here! McCoy follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
