Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Craig Simonsgaurd (ranked 1990 p4p, 504 weight class) and Jon Meril (ranked 265 p4p, 78 weight class). Craig Simonsgaurd has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Craig Simonsgaurd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Meril!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simonsgaurd rushes Meril and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Simonsgaurd is trying to pull guard but Meril has him pressed against the cage.
Meril lands with a light punch inside.
Meril has a couple of punches blocked by Simonsgaurd.
Come on Simonsgaurd - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Meril breaks from the clinch.
Simonsgaurd takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Meril comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Simonsgaurd doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Meril counters with a straight right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Simonsgaurd gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Meril presses Simonsgaurd against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Simonsgaurd jumps guard but Meril stands there with Simonsgaurd around his waist. Simonsgaurd gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig Simonsgaurd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Simonsgaurd is trying to pull guard but Meril has him pressed against the cage.

Simonsgaurd gets control of Meril's arms and successfully pulls guard. Simonsgaurd will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Simonsgaurd escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Meril gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simonsgaurd had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Meril defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Simonsgaurd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Meril can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Simonsgaurd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Simonsgaurd is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Meril is aware though and is defending well.

Simonsgaurd looking for a triangle here. Meril is fighting it but it looks tight! Simonsgaurd pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Meril is tapping out - this one is all over!
