The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
McPherson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Van Cleefe gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McPherson.
McPherson fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Turd McPherson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Van Cleefe creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through McPherson's defenses.
McPherson takes an elbow to the temple.

It looks like Turd McPherson has been cut.
McPherson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Van Cleefe smiles and moves away.
Van Cleefe moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and McPherson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McPherson.

McPherson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
McPherson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McPherson stands up over Van Cleefe, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Van Cleefe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Van Cleefe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McPherson is just riding it out for now. Van Cleefe eventually gives up the hold.

Van Cleefe is trying to work for a kimura but McPherson is defending well.
McPherson is looking to improve his position.
Van Cleefe scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

McPherson tries to get to full guard but Van Cleefe has control of the leg.
Van Cleefe moves into full mount! McPherson won't be happy about that!
Van Cleefe takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
McPherson can't escape the position.
Van Cleefe can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McPherson is looking to escape.
Van Cleefe moves to take his opponent's back.
Van Cleefe has the hooks in. McPherson is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Van Cleefe is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Van Cleefe is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
