PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paddy Murphy (ranked 3008 p4p, 2352 weight class) and Leonard Nimoy (ranked 388 p4p, 326 weight class). Murphy comes to the cage accompanied by Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nimoy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Murphy.
We've been hearing reports that Murphy has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Nimoy scores with a decent looking hook.
Nimoy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Murphy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Murphy throws a sloppy head kick and Nimoy moves out of range easily.
Nimoy stuffs the takedown attempt from Murphy. Murphy gets slowly back to his feet.
Nimoy avoids the head kick by Murphy.
Nimoy connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Murphy momentarily.
Murphy shoots in looking for a takedown but Nimoy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Murphy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Murphy dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Nimoy. That did some damage!

Murphy takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Murphy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nimoy's waist but Nimoy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Murphy off to one side.

Leonard Nimoy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Horrible takedown attempt by Murphy or perhaps it was just good defense by Nimoy, which made it look bad.
Nimoy uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Murphy.
A decent looking cross lands there for Nimoy.
The fight stays on the outside here - Murphy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Nimoy counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nimoy bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

It seemed like Nimoy was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nimoy punishes Murphy's body with a nice straight punch.
Murphy wants to land a leg kick but Nimoy is out of range.

Nimoy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Nimoy rattles Murphy with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Murphy tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Nimoy dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Murphy stiff and motionless on the mat!
